NCRPO: Exemplifying Gratefulness to Forefathers, Engaging Youth to a Heritage Tour

Continuing to instill sense of nationalism to the youth of Metro Manila, the National.Capital Region Police Office under the lead of PMGEN Felipe R Natividad through the Regional Community Affairs and Development Division conducted Heritage tour at Musoleo de los Veteranos Revolucion, North Cemetery, Manila and Rizal National Monument, Rizal Park Manila on June 10, 2022.


As part of the commemoration of the Philippine Independence 2022, with the theme; “Pagsuong sa Hamon ng Panibagong Bukas”, NCRPO initiated the tour to educate and inform the youth about past traditions from a given culture or heritage place.


The Musoleo delos Veteranos de la Revolucion (Mausoleum for the Revolution Veterans) found inside the Manila North Cemetery (Manila, Philippines) was built in 1915 and was dedicated to house the remains of the heroic men who fought the Spaniards and Americans during the Philippine Revolution of 1896-1901.


Inaugurated in 1920, Generals Mariano Noriel, Licerio Geronimo, Tomas Arguelles, and Pio del Pilar’s remains are included among our forefathers whose bravery and sacrifices gave us the independence we have today.


On the other hand, Rizal Monument is a 50-foot (15 m) high granite obelisk found at the western edge of the Luneta Park. It was built to commemorate the heroism of Jose P Rizal dedicated by the people of Philippine Islands.


Rizal Park has its huge historical significance wherein the place have witnessed so many events in Philippine history including the most notable execution of our National Hero.


The tour was spearheaded by PMAJ ROSEMARI E N DICHE, Chief, CAS with the supervision of PCOL ROMY I PALGUE, Chief RCADD together with 100 Regional and District KKDAT officers and members led by Hon. Jodile E. Cañete along with the personnel of RCADD, Regional Mobile Force Battalion, Regional Public Information Office , Manila Police District, and Southern Police District.


During the activity, Engr. Antonio L. Ballena Jr, Engr. Dept Manila City Hall give a brief history of the said Mausoleo to the KKDAT participants. Afterwards, participants proceeded to Rizal Monument wherein Mr. Villamor Paredes, Area Manager Light and Sound Complex, Martyr Dom of Dr. Jose Rizal give a brief discussion about the life of Dr. Jose Rizal.


PMGEN Natividad emphasized the importance of retelling the history of these heritage places for the next generation to appreciate “Visiting, listening to the history and paying respect to these places is our opportune prospect to show younger generation that our country is a grateful nation that does not and will not forget its defenders, heroes and patriots who fought for the freedom we all enjoy today,” he said.###
