PMGEN ELEAZAR, SON OF A WORLD WAR II VETERAN, RECEIVES AWARD ON BEHALF OF HIS FATHER

In celebration of the Philippine Veterans Week, PMGEN GUILLERMO LORENZO T ELEAZAR, Regional Director, took part in the SUNSET CEREMONY with the theme: Sakripisyo ng Beterano ay Gunitain, Gawing Tanglaw ng Kabataan Tungo sa Kaunlaran” held on April 11, 2019 at Libingan ng mga Bayani, Taguig City. PMGEN ELEAZAR, son of SSGT VICTOR L ELEAZAR ASN-UNK a World War II veteran, received on behalf of his father the WWII Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal and Posthomous Award in grateful recognition and appreciation of his father’s services and honorable performance of duties during the World War II. SSGT VICTOR L ELEAZAR ASN-UNK a World War II veteran, Tatay Toti as he is fondly called by all, was born on May 11, 1927. Tatay Toti joined the guerrillas at the young age of 15 years. His role was to collect supplies or raise funds to buy supplies for the veterans in the front line. More often than not, Tatay Toti found himself in the front lines as the guerrillas battled the invaders. Tatay Toti never asked permission from his father, Guillermo or their Lolo Memong, regarding the secret activities he was engaged in. His sense of patriotism at a young age, his sense of camaraderie completely overwhelmed him. They often asked him if he was ever afraid doing his guerrilla activities in Tayabas and Lukban, he replied that he never thought about fear. He only knew he must help his countrymen fight the enemy to preserve our freedom. During the ceremony, PMGEN ELEAZAR delivered his message expressing his gratitude to the Veterans Federation of the Philippines for recognizing the heroism and selflessness of his father. He also illustrated the sacrifices of his war veteran father who also encouraged him to join the Philippine Military Academy. His father serves as his inspiration to render genuine service to our country and our fellowmen. PMGEN ELEAZAR also took the opportunity to encourage the veterans to join him in his fight for the freedom of the youth against illegal drugs. He emphasized that the drug problem is real and as the anchors of our country, veterans should raise concern about the plight of our youth today who are belng exposed to illegal drugs via evil pushers and even their peers who are already into drugs. PMGEN ELEAZAR reiterated his advocacy that there should be random checks of the students by the teachers of their schools to arrest the problem where it starts.
