The National Capital Region Police Chief PMGEN DEBOLD M SINAS commended the initiative of the Manila Police District JAS-PS7 Police Station, Abad Santos Ave., Tondo, Manila to improve the condition of their custodial facility through a major renovation.
According to the initial report, the project stemmed from the directive of the NCRPO Chief PMGEN SINAS, to ensure improved condition of the custodial facilities in the Metro.
Currently, the custodial facility of MPD PS7 has the capacity to accommodate 50 persons only. However, as of the moment, it is home to 216 persons under police custody.
Hence, they endeavored to convert their old storage room into an additional jail facility which can house about 50 to 60 additional Persons Under Police Custody (PUPC).
The repair estimate for the project totalled around 60,000 pesos more or less. The repair and extended custodial facility will be more ventilated and secured by hollow blocks and thick metal bars.
“I am elated for the snappy response of the Manila Police District Jose Abad Santos-PS7 to my call for an improved custodial facility in every police station in the Metro housing PUPCs. Having the first level of custody for arrested persons, it is but imperative for us to look for ways of decongesting our custodial facilities and look after their welfare amidst this pandemic. Hence, I commend Jose Abad Santos Police Station for your immediate action to my directive,” PMGEN SINAS said.
